BRIAN J. GAFFNEY, MD, FACC

Dr. Gaffney completed his undergraduate education at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He obtained his medical degree and completed three years of residency in Internal Medicine at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Gaffney completed his cardiology fellowship at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, and was appointed to the faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Cardiovascular Division at George Washington University Hospital, a position he held for five years.

He was recruited to his hometown area in 1982 to head up a state of the art cardiac care unit with a new cardiac catheterization laboratory at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, which was NYS certified in 1985. Dr. Gaffney is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

ASHOK R. PATEL, MD, FACC

Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate medical training, MB/BS at B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad, India. He continued his medical education at B. J. Medical College where he earned his medical degree. His postdoctoral residency in internal medicine was completed at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at Coney Island Hospital. Dr. Patel joined CNY Cardiology in 1990. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.

ASHOK R. PATEL, MD, FACC

MICHAEL KELBERMAN, MD, FACC

Dr. Kelberman completed his undergraduate education at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY and obtained his medical degree at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY. He completed three years of postdoctoral medical residency, then spent an additional year after selection as chief resident of the internal medicine program. He went on to complete a three year fellowship in cardiology at the SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse. Dr. Kelberman is a native of the Utica area, and returned to join CNY Cardiology in 1992. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Varma completed his undergraduate medical training, MB/BS at S.N. Medical College in Agra, India. He continued his medical education at S.N. Medical College and received his medical degree in internal medicine. He then spent two years as Senior House Officer in internal medicine in the UK. He completed his postdoctoral residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by a three-year fellowship in cardiology at the SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Varma joined CNY Cardiology in 1994. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Hotvedt completed his undergraduate work at Middlebury College in Vermont. He then attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree. His residency in internal medicine was at George Washington University, followed by a three-year fellowship in cardiology at the University of Minnesota. He concluded his formal medical training with an additional year of subspecialty training as a Vascular Medicine Fellow. Dr. Hotvedt joined CNY Cardiology in 1996. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. MacIsaac completed his undergraduate and medical studies at the University of Ottawa. From there he attended the University of California-Davis for his three-year residency and one-year fellowship. He finished his cardiology fellowship at the University of Calgary, and completed an additional year of subspecialty training in interventional cardiology. Dr. MacIsaac joined CNY Cardiology in 1998. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Love completed his undergraduate, medical studies and residency at the University of Missouri-KC. After an extra year as chief resident he then completed his cardiology fellowship at the Mid-America Heart Institute at Kansas City. Dr. Love joined CNY Cardiology in 2000. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Dr. Marhamati obtained his undergraduate degree at Boston University. He then attended Boston University School of Medicine and there earned is Ph.D. and medical degree. He continued his medical training at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in San Diego, California, where he did his three-year residency in Internal Medicine and three-year fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Marahmati joined CNY Cardiology in 2003. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Sassower completed his undergraduate education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Il. He received his medical degree and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Il. He performed his fellowship in clinical and interventional cardiology at Harvard Medical School where he also served as an instructor in medicine. Dr. Sassower joined CNY Cardiology in 2009. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Berg completed his undergraduate education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He then attended SUNY-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY where he received his medical degree. He completed his internal medicine residency, general cardiology fellowship and cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Berg joined CNY Cardiology in 2007. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.

Dr. Markwood completed his undergraduate education at the United States Military Academy at West Point in West Point, NY. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. From there he completed his internal medicine internship at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Colorado and his residency and fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He continued his education in Cardiac Electrophysiology where he completed his fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Markwood joined CNY Cardiology in 2007. He is Board Certified in Cardiology and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.

Dr. Mathew completed his medical training at the Medical College & Hospitals/University of Kerala in Trivandrum, India. He went on to do a Rotating Internship University of Kerala/Medical College & Hospitals and completed an internal medicine residency the State University of New York/ Woodhull Medical & Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, New York. He performed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Brown University School of Medicine/The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island and a Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School/Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. He completed his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Brown University School of Medicine/The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases and is Board Certified in Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Wright received his undergraduate education at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. He attended SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY where he received his medical degree. His internal medicine residency was completed at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY. He completed fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology there as well. Dr. Wright joined CNY Cardiology in August 2021. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Echocardiography.

Dr. O'Laughlin received his undergraduate education at Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH. He received his graduate education in Biological Sciences at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. He attended the St. Georges University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies where he received his medical degree. His internal medicine residency was completed at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. He completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease there as well. He went on to complete a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT. Dr. O'Laughlin joined CNY Cardiology in August 2021. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Saiful received his undergraduate education at New York University in New York, NY. He attended the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Netherlands Antilles where he received his medical degree. His internal medicine residency was completed at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, NY. He completed a fellowship General Cardiology there as well. He went on to complete fellowships in Interventional Cardiology and Structural Heart Disease at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. Dr. Saiful joined CNY Cardiology in August 2021. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology.
